FLASHBACK: JUNE 2010
CHELSEA LIKES GOO SALON
When I moved to LA two years ago, I needed a haircut. Goo Salon was my luckiest Yelp discovery to date. I felt at home in the space instantly. Pucci inspired prints on the walls and pillows, over-the-top chandeliers from the ceiling, and a lilac floor drenched with sunlight. Can I decorate my bedroom like this?
My first haircut with Josh was a simple one but I fell in love with his Gaultier glasses and denim vests immediately; now no one else has touched my hair in almost two years. He has amazing stories about growing up in LA, always makes me laugh, and has been brutally honest about everything from my boyfriends to my dye jobs. Josh is by far one of my very favorite people in LA and I recommend you run to the corner of Fairfax & Rosewood next time you need a trim. Maybe you should get bangs, that way you can see him more often.
5 THINGS CHELSEA CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT
Avocados
I’ve referred to them as nature’s butter alternative, I like them most spread on multigrain toast with olive oil and red pepper flakes, and it makes me extremely sad if I hear some one order something “without avocado.”
Live Music
My favorite thing about living in Los Angeles has definitely been the live music scene. I see shows several nights a week, most often frequenting The Echo, The Satellite, and The Bootleg for their Monday night residencies, always free and always awesome.
iPhone
I hate this one, but it’s very true. Does anyone have a landline anymore? And I honestly don’t know how I got around before I had a map of the world in my pocket.
The Color Black
I attribute this to growing up in New York. I always made fun of my mother for not wearing enough color but as I got older I started wearing all black all the time. It makes me feel more comfortable in my skin when I’m itching to get out of it.
Doc Martens
I bought a pair of black 8-hole Doc Martens last spring and they’ve been with me through everything in the past year. I swear that once I started wearing them, I forgot how to wear other shoes. Dresses, skinny jeans, cut offs, I’ll wear them with anything at any time. In fact, I need to buy a new pair immediately.

5 THINGS KATE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT
Fashion Magazines
This has been a serious addiction of mine since high school. I am hooked on colorful, glossy images of beautiful clothes on beautiful people in beautiful locations; the more foreign and expensive the magazine, the better.
Loafers/Moccasins/Shoes Without Laces
Fuck laces. They’re too much work, and my feet get claustrophobic, what can I say?
Lingerie
I like expensive undies. Don’t hate.
The Fifth Floor of The Museum of Modern Art in New York
Cezanne. Matisse. Picasso. Some people are drawn to certain aesthetics and time periods, and this one is mine.
Chocolate
Duh. Especially with fruit.

KATE LIKES THE BLACK CAT BAKERY & CAFE
Every once in a while, you come across a place that makes you think, “They knew I was coming.” The place that hasmade me feel that way in Los Angeles is The Black Cat Bakery & Cafe. I’m addicted to cafe aux laits, and they make a damn good one. I also have a huge penchant for breakfast specialties, and their multigrain berry pancakes are surprisingly light and absolutely delicious. More than anything, though, I enjoy their window seats; they allow me to watch the people and traffic outside but enjoy the home-like atmosphere inside. Black Cat is a restful place with an aesthetic I hope to one day draw upon to create a space of my own, but until then, I’ll just keep feeding my strange decaf coffee addiction and hanging out in their windows.
YOU’RE JUST A LITTLE BIT YELLING.
Neither one of us would describe ourselves as girls’ girls, but for over ten years we’ve been able to make this work. Admittedly we’re both headstrong and a little bit controlling but we both speak the same emotional language and are usually able to hear each other. Yes it’s cliche to say that we bring out the best in one another, so instead we’ll say that we know how to handle the worst.
A lot of people have warned us to the pitfalls of moving in with your best friend but we’re honestly not concerned. We’ve spent the past two months living in a one bedroom apartment together with no incident to report. Of course it’s not always cotton candy and ferris wheels, but at the end of the day we don’t really want to talk to anyone else but each other.
In two weeks, we’ll be moving into a beautiful new apartment in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. We’ll have a panoramic view of the entire city from our rooftop pool so you can all watch as we live the life that we’ve wanted to have together for so long.
